In early August, our friends at Panama Day Trips, based in Panama City, offered BirdWatching readers a free virtual birding experience: Participants could watch via Zoom for a few hours while tour guide Jerin Tate and his fellow guides birded along Panama’s famous Pipeline Road in Soberanía National Park, one of the best places to find birds in Central America.
The event was quite popular, and Tate and colleagues have continued to offer the experience in the weeks since.
“Since we started with our first virtual tour with your readers, we have now reached the point where we are regularly seeing up to 40 different bird species each day we go out, and adding new species to our virtual list daily,” he says. “We have a hardcore group of your readers who have joined us almost every day since then to watch our virtual tour (around two or three days per week).”
Now, they’re offering BirdWatching readers a month of virtual birding experiences for free. Starting Thursday, September 24, virtual tours will be offered every day for a week except Sunday. After that, they’ll be held two or three days per week for the next month. All are free to join; donations are accepted at the end of each session. Readers can sign up for as many tours as they like.
The sessions are really fun and informative. If you have the time, check it out! Click here to view the schedule and sign up.
