Five superb photos of American White Pelicans from our galleries

American White Pelican was recently the subject of a fascinating article in The Passenger Pigeon, the excellent journal of the Wisconsin Society for Ornithology. The bird breeds primarily in the north-central and western United States and in western and central Canadian provinces, but it’s not staying put. Since 1994, it’s been moving eastward, as you can read here.

The low-flying pelicans above were photographed by Laure Wilson Neish as they migrated north through the Okanagan Valley, near Penticton, British Columbia.
