Every day on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, we share a photo of the day — a superb image from the more than 20,000 pictures in our Reader Galleries. Our selections below from the second half of September 2021 include photos of an adult and juvenile Wild Turkey, a group of Grey Crowned Cranes, a wonderful close-up of a Yellow-crowned Night-Heron, and more!

This female Common Yellowthroat is missing a patch of feathers on its head, a few feathers are out of place or missing along the sides and flanks, and at least two of the secondaries in the wing are seriously out of place.
It’s unclear if the bird escaped an attack by a predator or if the missing feathers are due to molt. In spite of this, the bird seemed perfectly healthy during Ian Doris' period of observation in Ontario.
