Burrowing Owls often take up residence in prairie dog towns, using empty burrows for their nests. This one and its mate raised a brood of about eight chicks on the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge near Denver. We were able to observe them for a few weeks until the pair relocated the nest farther from the road. Taken May 2020.
