I took this photo in Vancouver, BC, from a sailboat. As the boat was leaving False Creek and heading out into more open waters, I noticed many Pelagic Cormorants coming by. In this shot, the bird is flying up to its nest under a bridge. The bird has nesting material in its beak and is shaking off the water on its feathers.
I took many photos of the cormorants in flight, but this one is my favorite. I took it with a Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L USM lens mounted on a Canon EOS 60D, shooting handheld.
