Taking our usual walk along an isolated stretch of beach on San Juan Island, Washington, we saw this enormous Peregrine perched on a piece of driftwood. We watched as it turned its head 360 degrees like an owl. Unlike the eagles we see there, this bird was faced toward the grassy fields rather than the ocean. My husband quietly crept up close and got this shot.
