Pine Grosbeak, part of last winter’s irruption, seen with robin flock for over a week in Downtown Andover, Ma. Feeding in a Centurion crabapple planted in sidewalk, and completely ignoring traffic of pedestrians and cars; in fact it allowed me to approach within 4 feet or so, even after the robins had fled. Fearlessness typical of the species.
The grosbeak ate only the apple seeds, dropping the rest to the sidewalk for the robins to glean.
