Location: Antelope Flats Road, Grand Teton National Park, WY
As shown in this image, western kingbirds have a grey head, a lighter grey throat, and a bright yellow belly. Barely visible are the white outer tail feathers. Differentiation from Cassis’s kingbirds may be difficult. Where ranges of both species overlap, Cassin’s kingbird may be distinguished from a Western kingbird based on the darker grey head and the presence of white tips on the tail feathers. This bird was photographed in western Wyoming, outside the range of Cassin’s kingbirds.
